Is It Me? Or…. Two or three days a week I ride a bike around different neighborhoods in town. And by the way, it is an “Old Guy” powered bike. I do have an e-bike that I ride too, but mostly the pedal powered one. But I digress. Since it is election season there are hundreds, if not thousands of campaign signs in yards and on street corners. Most just give the candidate’s name. Some proclaim that they are a Conservative or a Republican. Haven’t seen one yet stating that the candidate is a Democrat or a Liberal. But this morning, on a ride, I realized that, unlike in past elections, I have not seen one sign stating that the candidate is MAGA or a Trump supporter. Not one. And I covered nearly 20 miles of city streets this morning. Not one. And just a few stating the candidate was a Republican and or a conservative. One good looking sign said he was an “American First Conservative”. But again, no mention, even in the fine print, that he was MAGA or a fan of the current President. What’s the matter guys and gals? Could it be that admitting that you are MAGA might actually cost you some votes? Have you taken the pulse of the people and found that openly proclaiming your MAGAism might be a liability even among your own supporters? Has the shine worn off of the Golden One? Or could it be that you are tiring of high prices at the grocery store and gas station. Or of a war with no good way out of in the foreseeable future. Or are you bothered by the giant Golden Arch or the Massive ballroom? Welcome to the real world.

Problem Solved We have a medical problem in Havasu. Not enough doctors, nurses and other medical professionals to serve the community. Now keep that thought in mind for a minute. Now along comes a party who wants to build a gas station / car wash / convenience store. Of course, they want to build it in a high traffic area and they need a good sized lot on which to do so. And as a former, longtime Realtor here, I know that there just aren’t many of those types of vacant land available. Now, every few years we spend a lot of money on the so-called General Plan. And that General Plan helps the city with establishing zoning. So who’s bright idea was it to zone a piece of property for either medical / health care use or for a gas station? Does that even make sense? So, to attract more health professionals we turn a property in the Medial District into a gas station? Does that show our commitment to providing more health care professionals to our residents? For the most part, doctors make a pretty good living, and I have no problem with that at all. And many like to build and own their own office buildings. We are removing one of the last remaining vacant lots in the Medial District. Some might argue that the property has remained undeveloped for over 60 years so maybe it needs a better use. I would argue that we need more medical facilities and more health care professionals. And this is no way to attract them. This will only make the problem worse.
